Untreated Gum Disease, may but not always, lead to loss of bone around the teeth, this bone will not grow back but further loss can be stabilized by correct cleaning techniques and Non Surgical Periodontal Therapy treatment by the Dental Hygienist to clean into the spaces under the gums eliminating the bacteria and tartar (calculus).

It maybe necessary for her to administer anesthesia to relieve any discomfort.

However, in some cases it may be necessary to refer you to  our excellent Periodontal Specialist.

Lifestyle or medical factors can increase the risk of gum disease:

  • Smoking; reduces blood flow and slows healing
  • Diabetes; delays healing especially if blood sugars not controlled
  • Hormonal changes; such as pregnancy and menopause
